Cue the ominous music

Remember when I said here, "Who is Earl Hayden, and why is he saying (in the linked photo caption) that "these things don't happen in threes"?"?

Well cue the ominous music, 'cause I have a bad feeling about this....

Looks like Nicky Hayden concurred with my assessment: He pulled out of the X-Games after having participated in Friday practice, citing the high risk of injury as the reason for not continuing: Apparently he had been initially told that there would be more pavement and less dirt, and no triple jumps, only to find that was not the case. I think that he did the prudent thing in withdrawing. Had it been a dirt-track or TT, bet on anybody named Hayden. On a SuperMoto, though....

Looks like I may have spoken too soon the second time, and that I was more correct in my initial pessimism than I had realized: Turns out that Nicky Hayden did in fact receive an injury during that Friday practice, due to an extremely hard landing off the dreaded triple-jump -- although he didn't crash or anything. The injury was kept under wraps, until, after consultations with the famous Dr. Ting, it became obvious that he would not be able to participate at the MotoGP of Brno....
